How Volcanoes Erupt
Volcanoes erupt when magma makes its way to the surface. Then when all of the pressure builds, the volcano pops and it launches magma, ash and rock. Eruptions can be one of the most devastating natural disasters ever. It erupts deadly ash into the air that can suffocate people! Not to mention that the magma can be somewhere from 1300 to 2400 Fahrenheit! Volcanoes can be very scary and unpredictable. Some people might think a volcano is extinct, but two years later it erupts and ruins everything!So be careful with this natural disaster!
Deadliest Eruptions
One of the deadliest eruptions was in 1815 in Tambora,Indonesia. The estimated deaths it's caused is about 92,000 deaths. The main cause of death was starvation. Indonesia also had an eruption that killed 36,417 people! When volcanoes erupt, it releases tons of ash. Ash can be very deadly if you inhale too much of it.It can suffocate you, or even burn you from the inside out! Volcanoes are one of the most devastating natural disasters that could occur, because of the fact that they can destroy towns in an instant!!!
How Volcanoes Form
Most volcanoes form from Tectonic plates.When tectonic plates have subducted, they melt. The molten rock will slowly emerge to the surface of Earth.This is what we call lava. When layers upon layers of lava build up, the lava will shape a volcano. Volcanoes erupt and cause devastating results, especially if the volcano is near a city. Volcanoes can cause millions of dollars of damage if the eruption is big enough. This could really harm a city if the eruption caused a ton of deaths, or if they can't afford to rebuild.
