Preholding Project
Major objectives for 2017
Expand our Outfield Practice
Increase our involvement in the GI practice
-How many cases can we add?
-What is the financial impact of expanding our coverage?
-When do we staff these cases/how many rooms?
-How do we staff the practice to provide the best care?
Next step: Form the team. Design, trial and implement plans. Goal: trials by March.
Increase our involvement in the Cardiology practice
-We need to be involved in every implantable device procedure
-We can only do this if we have the staff
Next step: Gather financial impact data, consider staffing impact.
We will improve our delivered product by applying Mayo Clinic values. We will improve our financial outlook by improving our product and expanding our influence.
The current block practice needs to be expanded. We performed over 800 nerve blocks last year. This practice netted hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue.
Peripheral nerve blocks are an excellent product. They lead to faster discharge times, less opiate use, reduced nausea and vomiting and higher patient satisfaction.
The block practice support and the logistics of the preholding area need to be improved to facilitate an expansion of the practice.
Next step: Form the preholding team. Meet to develop current state assessment and shape the preholding area to improve our workflow. Determine best staffing to improve block practice support. Trial and implement.
Patient care is improved with our involvement:
Direct:
ERAS protocols
Peripheral Nerve Blocks
Sedation for imaging and cardiology procedures
Indirect:
Moderate sedation protocols and oversight
Training paramedics, RT and family practice residents
Build the Sparta Practice
-Complete analysis of current capability
-Ensure proper patient selection
-Ensure appropriate level of staffing
-Plan for the future. Extend our level of care.
Next step: Form the Sparta Team. Team meets to plan site visit and current state analysis
This is the foundation of our department. All of our future success will depend on teamwork.
