Animal Farm Character Analysis

Benjamin represents the group of people who thought that change was hopeless.

Mr. Jones represents Czar Nicholas because of how he indulges himself while the animals suffer just the way Czar Nicholas did to his people.

Mr. Jones was once the owner of Animal Farm (he had originally named it Manor Farm).

After being driven out he stayed at the red Lion being a drunk.

He later dies at a home for alcoholic.

"....but was too drunk to remember to shut the pop-holes." (Orwell pg. 3)

Benjamin represent this class because of how he always speaks of hro hopeless the rebellion and how cynical he is.

Benjamin is a donkey on Animal Farm.

He is the oldest animal on the farm and maybe one of the wisest.

He is also a cynical animal who speaks in riddles.

"...Benjamin, as usual, said that he refused to meddle in such matters..." (Orwell pg. 91)

Napoleon is Stalin due to the fact that he chases out Snowball (Trotsky).

He also kills many of his animals with out mercy.

Napoleon is also in control of his dogs (KGB) who act as a type of police.

Napoleon is a fat pig who lives in Animal Farm.

He is the merciless leader of the animals who lies his way through things.

Although he is ruthless he is praised by the animals.

"Impossible!" cried Napoleon. "We have built the walls far too thick for that. They could not knock it down in a week. Courage, comrades!" (Orwell Page 102)

Snowball represents Trotsky.

Mollie represents the upper class

Snow ball represents Trotsky because he is chased out of Animal Farm because of his ideals and his rising popularity.

He also in innovative and persuasive.

Snowball was a pig smaller than Napoleon.

He came up with many great things for the farm such as the windmill.

he was once loved by all of the animals until Napoleon turned them against him.

"Comrade," said Snowball, "those ribbons that you are so devoted to are the badge of slavery. Can you not understand that liberty is worth more than ribbons?" (Orwell pg. 17)

Mollie represents the upper class because of how she wants to be clean and loved and cared for.

She also wants the prettiest of ribbons and delicacies like sugar cubes.

She also doesn't want to work but to have work done for her.

Mollie is a white mare on Animal Farm.

She is known for being immature and naive.

Mollie enjoys sugar cubes and colored ribbons in her hair.

"And shall I still be allowed to wear ribbons in my mane?" asked Mollie." (Orwell pg. 17)

Mr. Pilkington

Mr. Fredrick

Mr.Fredrick represents Hitler and his farm represents Germany.

Mr. Pilkington represents Winston Churchill and his farm, Foxwood, represents the United Kingdom

Mr. Pilkington represents Winston Churchill because of how he made and alliance with Animal Farm and never broke it.

Mr. Pilkington is a kind man on the Farm of Foxwood.

Mr. Pilkington is rivals with the other farm,

Mr. Pilkington has an allianxe with Animal Farm.

"...easy-going gentleman farmer who spent most of his time in fishing or hunting according to the season." (Orwell pg. 38)

Mr. Fredrick represents Hitler because of how he made an alliance with Napoleon but then broke it and attacked him.

Mr. Fredrick is a farmer on Pinchfield Farm.

He is a tough and shrewd man.

He is also known for driving hard bargains and being in law suits.

"...terrible stories were leaking out from Pinchfield about the cruelties that Frederick practiced upon his animals." (Orwell pg. 96)

Squealer

Boxer

Squealer represents the media.

Boxer represents the working class

Boxer represents the working class because of the hard labor he does.

He always get up earlier than the other animals to work.

He also always says "I must work harder." (Orwell pg. 29)

Boxer is a large horse on animal farm.

He is the hardest working of all of the animals.

He also is loyal to the leader and is naive.

Squealer represents the media because whenever Napoleon needs an announcement to be made he orders Squealer to persuade the animals that Napoleon is right.

He also is always talking to the animals that Napoleon is the hero of all animals and is always right.

Squealer also censors everything so that Napoleon did it.

Squealer is a small fat pig who is one of Napoleon's main advisers.

He is also the farm's announcer.

He is loud, persuasive, and cunning.

"Comrades," he said, "I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself. Do not imagine, comrades, that leadership is a pleasure!" (Orwell pg. 55)

Clover

Old Major

Old Major represents Lenin/Marx.

The Dogs

Clover represents the people who remember what Russia was like before communism

The dogs represent the NKVD.

Old Major represents Lenin/Marx because he is the "father" of animalism.

He also was the one who set the path for the farm to make it what it is.

Old Major was a white boar with tusks.

He was also very wise and privileged for not being slaughtered.

He was a large pig who was a leader and a pig to look up to for the animals.

"Comrades, you have heard already about the strange dream that I had last night." (pg. 6)

Clover represents these people because of how sh sees the commandments being changed.

Clover is a brown horse on Animal Farm.

She is an intelligent horse and is hard working.

She is also main leaders of the animals besides the pigs.

"...thought she remembered a definite ruling against beds..." (Orwell pg. 66)

The dogs represent the NKVD because of how Napoleon (Stalin) trained them to be ruthless and to only be loyal to him.

The dogs are several dogs on Animal Farm.

The dogs are raised from a litter of nine puppies by Bluebell and were taken and raised by Napoleon.

These dogs were raised to be loyal to Napoleon and intimidate the other animals.

Moses

Moses represents the church.

Moses represents the church because of how he tries to spread the word of a better place which is candy mountain.

Moses is a tame Raven on Animal Farm.

He is a very sneaky bird who tries to spread rumors.

He spreads false hopes to the animals.

"The pigs had an even harder struggle to counteract the lies put about by Moses, the tame raven. Moses, who was Mr. Jones's especial pet, was a spy and a tale-bearer, but he was also a clever talker." (Orwell 17)
