The South shared several advantages over the North. They had an advantage in cotton production because of the increased amount of slaves they had which helped with the mass production of cotton, that was used to manufacture products. The South also had more slaves than the North did, mainly due to the North's beliefs against slave labor. The South used the slaves as a source of labor and income. The more cotton that they produced the more they could use to manufacturing products in textile factories and make income off of the products. The South produced two-thirds of the entire world's cotton supply; the more cotton made for the South the more income. However, the North overcame this disadvantage by using mechanized labor instead of manual labor, which was faster and more efficient. By 1860, free states had nearly twice the value of farm machines and produced half the nation's corn and a great amount of its oats and grains.
By 1860, ninety percent of the nation's manufacturing came from the northern states. The North prevailed in manufacturing because of the increase in immigrants coming to the North. The Northern States had attracted a vast majority of European Immigrants. One of the reasons immigrants settled in the North was because many feared becoming slaves in the South. A result from the increase in immigration in the Northern states was that their population grew to nearly 23 million. The South's population remained at 9 million--with slaves making the majority.
The North produced 3/4 of the nation's wealth, leading to its larger development of transportation: railroads. The South only had twenty-nine percent of the nation's total railroad tracks.
Therefore, based off the North's wealth and economic status/advantages, they will win the Civil War.
