Buddhism Sacred Text

Buddhism is a monotheistic religion. Buddhists only believe in Buddha and they follow the guidelines of the sacred texts Tripitaka, Mahayana Sutras and Tibetan Book Of The Death to search for their enlightenment.

The three section of the Tripitaka (three baskets of Wisdom) are

Vinaya Pitaka (the Discipline Basket) - A rule book for monks and nuns.

There are 227 rules for monks, and more for nuns.

Sutta Pitaka (the Teaching Basket)- The actual experiences of Buddha.

Abhidhamma Pitaka (the Higher Doctrine Basket)- An explanation on the teaching of Buddha. Most of these are called Sutras.

Parts of the Tripitaka such as the Dhamma-pada and the Sutta-Nipata are among the most expressive religious books in the world. Some of Buddha's parables are very similar to those used by Jesus.

Sacred Text Of Buddhism

The three sacred text of Buddhism are Tripitaka, Mahayana Sutras and Tibetan Book Of The Death. Although there are three sacred texts, today I am just going to talk about Tripitaka, which is canonical. The sacred book of Buddhism is called the Triptaka. Tripitaka was first written on long, narrow leaves sewn together at the edges then put into bunches and stored in baskets. The word Tripitaka means “three baskets.” Tripitaka was first written in an ancient Indian language called Pali. It is also called the Pali Canon, after the language in which it was first written. Pali was also the language similar to what Budda himself spoke.

Buddahood

What is Sacred Text??????

The understanding developed within the Buddhist religion over many years has created a unique resource for all those who wish to follow its path. This path eventually ends in Enlightenment or Buddhahood after following the four Noble Truths for a very long time. This is the purpose of the Buddhist spiritual life; bring the end of suffering for anyone who reaches it.

The meaning of sacred texts is the writing that is recognised for the worship of a deity. The sacred texts are a huge number of Buddhist scriptures and religious texts and are normally divided into canonical and non-canonical.

What is Buddhism?

Canonical

Non-canonical

Canonical texts are called the Sutras (San-skrit) or Suttas (Pali) are often believed to be the actual words of the Buddha.

Non-Canonical texts include collections of quotes, histories and grammars.

Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of reality. Buddhist’s practice meditation as a means of changing themselves in order to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness, and wisdom. Buddhism is a monotheistic religion which means Buddhists only believe in one God or person.

Why is Sacred Text important ?

Sacred texts of Buddhism are important because they give guidelines to followers and they contain scriptures and meditation methods used by the religious community.
