aerodynamics

Video:

The aerodynamics of the Burj Khalifa is simply excellent. Let us tell you some facts about the aerodynamics. This skyscraper uses the Bundled Tube design from the Willis Tower in Chicago. In this design you have to understand another type of wind. This wind is called vortices. Every building has steel rods, but if you have a rectangular skyscraper going up about 800m, there is a problem. The vortices will push the tower down. That is why the Burj Khalifa is a Y-shaped tower that has curves instead of edges. The Burj Khalifa has all of the steel rods on the outside instead of the normal inside steel rods. This helps to stack different layers on top of the building. This helps to prevent the wind from pushing the Burj Khalifa down to the ground. The Willis Tower used this method, but it was not curved but had edges. That means that there is a slight chance that it can fall, but since the Burj Khalifa is curved, it can easily beat the vortices. That can save many lives.

Introduction

Materials and Extra Info

Hello students of class 7A! My name is Dy[an! My name is Dev! This is the presentation of our research project on the Burj Khalifa! In this mini presentation, Dylan and I are going to be presenting 3 things. We are going to be giving you some facts about the building, we are going to show you some clips of a video and we are going to answer 10 questions we made for the structure. We hope you enjoy this presentation!

The Burj Khalifa, known as the Burj Dubai before its inauguration, is a mega skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is about 829.8m tall and that lead the Burj Khalifa to break many records. It has been the tallest skyscraper since 2008. The Burj Khalifa's construction started on January 6, 2004, and completed from September 2008 to 2 December, 2009. Finally it opened on 4, January, 2010. This project costed $1.5 billion. This building's address is 1 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai, UAE. This skyscraper is named in honour of Abu Dhabi ruler and the president, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This structure is obviously a man made structure.

The Burj Khalifa was made with a huge amount of Glass, Steel Aluminum and reinforced concrete. Ths skyscraper is 163 floors above ground. There are 15 usable floors plus 9 maintenance levels and 2 floors below ground parking levels. The floor area for the Burj khalifa is 309,723m squared. Also, there are 57 elevators which have 55 single deck elevators and 2 double deck elevators. This building's architectural style is Neo Futurism and was designed by Adrian Smith. The developer was Emaar Properties, the structural engineer was Bill Baker, and the main contractor was Samsung C&T Corporation, Besix, and Arabtec. It has double glazed windows, so it can withstand the heat. It has a lot of safety features including a few fire proof rooms. The elevators can go 2m/s, and it has good water systems and air conditioning. There are also 24,348 windows.
