The south has it all

Social

Here in the South we believe in community through the use of the plantation system. We believe YOU can become one of the wealthy elites controlling the land in our distinct social classes, with a little hard work and a little more indentured servants. With the plantation system feel free to bring as many indentured servants as you can handle, because those of you with the most will get the larger land grants. Many of the wealthy elites wanting to expand their plantations simply made indentured servants slaves and their plantations thrived. And if you're tired of renewing your indentures' contracts, simply make them into slaves.

Looking for the right place to raise kids? Come on down to the South! We believe in the importance of family and have created several schools and churches in the area. Besides the occasional land shortage due to the Indians or the slave increase, a place in the southern colonies is an optimal area to get a job, raise your family, and leave a lasting legacy.

It’s not a secret that we, the southern colonies, are the most prosperous colonies. Our wealth comes from our plantation economy that thrives due to our cultivation of tobacco, cotton, Indigo, and rice, along with many other farm products. Our thriving economy is made possible by the warm climate and fertile soil we have here in the south as opposed to the cold weather and rigid mountains of the northern colonies. Because our plantations require intensive labor, we import slaves from Africa, sign indenture contracts with servants, and at times we enslave the natives.

In addition to having Southern Gentry, we are proud to allow you the representation of your communities in governing councils and assemblies, commandment of local militias, and even service as county judge.

It’s down in the South that hosts the first successful English colony: Jamestown, Virginia. The colony has created the first elected legislature, called the House of Burgesses. This has set the standard for all forms of government here down South. We, the colonists, have incorporated concepts of freedom into all charters. It has provided English colonists with the ability to exercise all liberties, franchises and immunities. We enjoy the benefits of the Magna Carta and the common law. While our governments are not centered around close-knit towns where everyone holds a personal responsibility, our appointed governor has allowed all free inhabitants of the plantations to elect representatives to join with the governor and an appointive council in passing ordinances for the welfare of the colony.

Though our climate heightens the risk of you contracting a disease, you’d have a higher chance of surviving the winter down here in the warm south than in the frosty, unwelcoming north. We have many options down in the south, if you aren’t a city farmer, you can move away to become a yeomen or “backcountry” farmer. Finished your time as an indentured servant and don’t know what to do? Simply become a tenant farmer and rent land for your gracious plantation owner. Not into farming? You can always exchange items with Native indians. Although we have few towns and roads, you receive the opportunity to know your neighbors well. While you’re socializing with your neighbors, stop on by our facilities for blacksmiths, carpenters, weavers, coopers, and leather workers, whether it be for recreation or work.

Have you fallen upon hard times and need a place to start over? Come down South! Our laws make it easy for you to do just that! Do you want slavery legalized? We’ve already taken care of that! We even have slave codes that put a stopper in rebellions. Special curfews have been instituted for slaves, so you can sleep peacefully at night. More so, slaves are not allowed in court, so every jury and witness stand is filled with only civilized members of the county. We, the colonists, govern ourselves to a high standard that can not be attested by any of the other colonies.

And don’t worry if farming is not your style because we also participate in the export of materials such as lumber for shipbuilding purposes. Now, you might say that the northern colonies dominate the shipping industry, but we’re the ones that provide the wood (lumber) that enables their economy to flourish. In addition, we trade with the local Indians for deer skins. While we may be disadvantaged because we aren't in a central location and because we’re not the distribution center of America, we in the South have still created a niche for ourselves that can not to be filled by any other region.

Because of this, you are guaranteed that all decisions are going to be made by the intellectually superior members of the community. It was in these institutions that the Toleration Act was passed. This was the first law in America that said that all Christians were free to worship in their own ways, unlike those colonists up North—forcing everyone to follow the Separatist doctrine. In the South, we listen to what you, the white majority, have to say.

Economic

But don’t worry if you cannot afford to manage large plantations or large populations of slaves because you have the option of becoming a backcountry farmer. When you’re a backcountry farmer, you can rent land from the planter elites and practice subsistence farming, in which you would be providing and producing just enough for you and your family. If the large, urban-like plantations are not your style, backcountry farming is perfect for you!

Still not enough land for you? Here in the South, we support each other to gain more land. The Indians are not using it to it’s full potential, but that’s why we’re here to help! We mold young Indians to attempt to become as superior as us by taking them into apprenticeships in terms that never expire. We’re here for them for life. We even help them move from lesser worlds to our great colonies.
