Creation Myths and legends from Jamaica

Ashanti of Ghana: How Spider Obtained the Sky-God’s Stories

BY JACK EIDT

Bondye is reffered to as male although like most monoGods it"s really down to his own personal appearance. Is he married to Mother goddes Gian-Met or is he really her?

Ther were no stories in the world. Kwanka Anansi the spider went to Nyan-Konpon, the sky god in order to buy the sky gods stories. The sky God said that he couldn't buy the stories. The stories could not be bought for anything except Onini the python, Osebo the leopard, Mmoutia the fairy, and the Mmobore the hornet.

Bondye: very senior voodou top god

Being a mix of badly and vaguely taugh christianity mixed with Afriacn Mythology. Bondyde is the Voodou monoGod equivalent of Jehovan. However polytheistic side come with Loa, giving plenty of lesser and deity spirits to worship.

Bondye does actually seem quite aloof (no doubt because of his African origins).

Voodou Mythology: Loa

The Sky God

Loa

Alternative name: LWA

God of: direction, directions

Type: spirtual being

These are the lesser deites or spirits who act under Bondye. They are comparable to angels and demons of Christianity. Also comparable to Saints of Catholicism. They guide you or ride you when prancing or trancing. LOA are spirits of possession.

Then he went to catch the leapord he made a hole and he helped him out and was bound in Anansi's web. After he went to catch the hornets he said there was rain and he had suggested that they went in the dry calabash. As soon as they were in the calabash he quickly sealed it. Lastly he went to catch the fairy. He put sticky gum on the doll. In front of the tree the fairies play there was bowl of yam. A fairy at the yam and thanked the doll and was very mad when she didnt respond and struck the doll and her hands becam stuck. He brought all of his captives to Nyan, and he was now given the sky gods stories. They were no longer called the sky god's storeie but now spider stories.

The spider said he shall bring all of them. The sky god said GO! and bring them then. First he went to where the python lived and was thinking outloud. He was debating if the Python wqas longer than the Palm tree branch or not as his Aso says. Python had overheard him and when Anansi explained his debate the python liad across the branch. He couldn't lay flat so Anansi tied him and then carried him to the sky god.
