High Latitude Climate Regions

High Latitude Climate Regions range from 60 degrees north to 60 degrees south. The climates in this region are Sub Arctic, Tundra, Ice Cap, and Highland. The countries that make up the High Latitude Climates are China, Greenland, Canada, Russia, and more. Climates are cold everywhere in these regions, some places more severe than others. The type of vegetation you would find in high latitude regions would be huge evergreen forests, during the summer months you would find sturdy grass, small berry bushes, and wildflowers. Although in the ice cap climate (Antarctica and Greenland areas) no vegetation grows. The average precipitation that High Latitude regions get is about 10 in. per year.

Mid-Latitude Climate Regions

All of the Mid-Latitude Climate Regions are very similar. This region includes Marin West Coast, Mediterranean, Humid Continental, and Humid Subtropic Climates. The countries that make up the Mid-Latitude Climate region are the US, Germany, Argentina, Spain, and more. They all range from 30 degrees to 60 degrees north and south of the equator. Summers are very hot and winters are mild and short except for the Humid Continental Climate which has long, cold, snowy winters. The average amount of precipitation that mid-latitude regions get is 44 in of rain per year. The vegetation that would be in this region are coniferous, deciduous, chaparral, oaks, magnolias, and palm trees. Also there is Scrub, Spanish Moss, Redwoods, and Temperate Grasslands.

Our climate in Wisconsin is the Humid Continental Climate.

Dry Climate Regions

The Dry Climate regions expand from 0 degrees to 50 degrees north and south of the equator. The two regions that make up the Dry Climate Region are the Desert and Steppe Climates. The Desert region falls into the countries of Australia, Egypt, Algeria, and more. The countries that make up the Steppe region are the US, Botswana, Iran and more. The average amount of precipitation these climates get is about 8 in. per year. The types of vegetation these areas have are grasses and shrubs with few scattered trees which require less water. Other vegetation consists of Cactus, Prickly Pear, and Aloe Vera.

The Tropical Climate Regions

Tropical Savanna Climate

The Tropical Savanna Climate is located near the Tropical Rain Forest areas but is a little farther away from the equator than the Tropical Rain Forest. A couple countries that make up the Tropical Savanna Climate region are Brazil, India, and Nigeria. A Tropical Savanna Climate Region tends to get 15 to 25 in. of precipitation per year. Its vegetation is mostly made up of broad grassland with very few trees.

Tropical Rain Forest Climate

This region is located near the equator reaching about 30 degrees north and south. Some countries that make up the Tropical Rain Forest Climate region are Brazil, Indonesia, and DR Congo.

It produces lush vegetation do to the amount of rain and heat it gets. The vegetation is so so thick in this region hardly any sunlight reaches the bottom of the forest floor. The amount of rain that falls in this region can get to 100 in. a year!
