A nun who aided reform in monastic life. Discovered small covenant, St. Joseph's

in Avila, Spain. Covenant consisted of

13 woman who gave up material comforts. Teresa's group of Carmlites were called Discalced. Opened covenants all over Spain. Wrote thousands of letters, some to inspire and instrust. Others to discharge buisness. Wrote, The Interior Castle.

Started calvinism. Believed in the authority of scriptures alone but didn't believe in Catholic mass or that Jesus was present during the Eucharist. Wrote, The Institutions of the Chirstian Religion. Established a theocracy in Geneva. Believed in predestination and had complete intolerance for any religion besides

Protestantism.

1483 - 1546

He didn't agree with how the church was selling

indulgences and granted people the will to go to

heaven. He wrote a letter containing his 95 theses

which was about sins and its forgiveness, the meaning

of indulgences,and the pope's power to grant

indulgences. Believed that the authority came from

the scriptures not the pope. The day before he was

suppose to be burned at the cross, he got kidnapped

and was kept prisoner in a castle. He caused the peasants

to revolt but in the end he didn't stick by them. He also

caused the protestant reformation. He created the

Lutheran church.

Henry wanted his second wife to be beheaded because she gave him a daughter. Thrid wife finally gave him a son but died in child birth. He had 6 wifes total. He started the Anglican church.
