What did he discover?

Louis Pasteur also known as the "father of microbiology" was also one of the three founders of bacteriology. Although, he is best known to the public for his invention of the technique of treating milk and wine to stop bacterial contamination, now called pasteurization - named in his honor.

Pasteur wasn't just known for his intelligence in the medical field but also his amazing creative and beautiful drawings, when he was in middle and high school he was known for his art. His art was even in the museum of the Pasteur institute in Paris. In 1840 he earned his bachelor of arts degree.

Pasteur took primary and secondary in his elementary, middle, and high school days. As for college, in 1842 he earned his bachelor of science degree at Royal College of Besançon. In 1843 Pasteur was admitted to the École Normale Supérieure (a teachers’ college in Paris), where he attended lectures by French chemist Jean-Baptiste-André Dumas and became Dumas’s teaching assistant. He then became a professor at other colleges such as the Dijon Lycée (secondary school) and University of Strasbourg.

Louis discovered that microorganisms cause disease, known as the germ theory of communicable disease. Also, he had discovered the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization. His discoveries have saved a countless number of people. He also had a huge part in the discovery of chemistry, as you can see by his discoveries involving chemistry.

Personal life

Pasteur, along with Alexander Fleming, Edward Jenner, Robert Koch and Joseph Lister are very important when studying about the medical field and medical history. Pasteur really wanted people to be idolize him and be remembered for his importance and discoveries.

Louis Pasteur was born December 27nd, 1822 in Dole, Jura, Franche-Comté, France. He died on September 28th, 1895 in Marnes-la-Coquette, Hauts-de-Seine, France. He married his wife, Marie Pasteur in 1849. He had many children with Marie by the names of Marie Louise, Camile, Jean Baptiste, Jeanne and Cecile Pasteur.
