To begin with, Rural Settlement Patterns have many different patterns. In this prezi, you'll understand different patterns and how surveys and rural settlements work. Enjoy!
Service-Based settlements is a settlement where it’s main theme is service. People work in service-based settlements because they want a job or a place
near a mall. (i.e. people in service-based settlements can own gas stations, souvenir shops, motels, and small restaurants that cater to people on the highway. Resource-Based settlements are scattered throughout ecozones in Canada. They base on resources. (i.e. Atlantic Maritime, Boreal Shield, Boreal Plains, Montane Cordillera, Pacific Maritime.)
There are three types of patterns of population distribution: Dispersed patterns, which are spread out. In this settlement, there are farms spread out over a large area. Concentrated pattern which very crowded. In this settlement, there are a large amount of resources and economic opportunities. Linear patterns, which is settlement in a line. This occurs along highways or rivers
Some areas have the same population density but different population distributions. Population density is the amount of people that live in one area. The formula to find population density is Population / Area = People/km2.
There are three factor that affect the pattern of rural settlement in an area:
1. Kind of resources in the area such as good agricultural resources
2. The transportation available at the time of settlement such as railroads, rivers, roads, or lakes
3. The role played by government policy
Some governments place a survey system explaining how the rural areas are to be settled
Settlement in Canada has two major categories: rural and urban. Rural settlements are settlements in the farm area. Urban settlements are settlements in the cities.
