How it made it to the scene of the crime:

Garlic Mustard was introduced onto the continent in the 1860's as a culinary herb. It was used for cooking in Europe and became popular as many Europeans immigrated into the United States.

Garlic Mustard:

What is being done to stop this criminal?

There are efforts to prevent seed production and to deplete the soil that Garlic Mustard lives in. Chemicals are used often, but simply cutting the plant from the ground is also effective.

Last Seen: East Coast and central regions of the United States, including New Jersey

How does it get around?

Why is it wanted?

Found in 27 United States, Garlic Mustard, also known as Alliaria Petiolata, is noxious and is able to spread quickly into new environments. It can out-compete native North American plants because it's predators are generally not in the United States.

Garlic Mustard is simply spread by being an efficient producer in terms of seeds. It starts out as clumps of round, garlic-smelling leaves which eventually blossom into white flowers that spread their seeds.
