Text-to-World: Safe as Houses is based on a true story. On October 15th, 1954, Hurricane Hazel had hit Weston, Ontario.
Text-to-Text: The book called Rain Tonight by Steve Pitt where Penny, the main character, experiences the same thing as Elizabeth, David, and Suzie.
Introduction: Elizabeth is walking home with David and Suzie through a rain storm.
Rising Action: The storm had gotten worse and before they know it,the water has engulfed the entire first floor of the house.
Climax: The only way to escape the water is to get onto the roof. Elizabeth and David chop a hole in the roof and make their way up, away from the freezing water.
Falling Action: Their house is soon being swept away by the current. The kids slide down the roof and grab onto a small tree, hoping someone will rescue them before they freeze to death.
"It felt like being on a ship, on a stormy sea. We had no power, no electricity, and now, without the telephone, we had no way to call back to shore. We were alone. And I was the captain" (Walters,48)
