Chasing Vermeer

Friendly

When Petra and Calder dash out of the U. school campus, the thief starts to chase them. They reach the playground, but Calder gets caught on the slide by the thief, and gets a concussion. The thief ran away with the painting. Calder followed and got the painting back. He found a tree house to hide in. He climbed up, and curled into a ball, whispering to himself in pain. Petra found him, and since the weather was below freezing, and Calder lost his jacket on the playground, she handed him her sweater. She walked him to his house, and told his parents all about the painting.

Shy

Friendly

The text in the book says, that Petra tries to steer clear from her class at the art museum. My own knowledge tells me that if you are trying to avoid everyone you know at an art museum, you must be pretty shy.

In the text, it says that Petra, and her friend, Calder, are drawn into a school building after hours to search for a stolen painting after using clues. It is dark, old and dreary, yet Petra still collaborates with Calder to find the mysterious thief and painting. I think that if you are in a dark and old building at night, and there could be a dangerous criminal that might hurt you, but you still cooperate with someone, you have got to be friendly.

Petra has changed!

Shy

In the first half of the book, Petra was shy, and did not like to talk much. In the end of the book, Petra had turned into a more friendly type of person. She changed because she befriended Calder, and she had gone through a lot of thinking.

The book says that Petra was walking home from school. Calder was behind her. She avoided any contact. Petra decided to pick a leaf off the ground, and she started to ask it questions! My schema tells me that if you have someone to talk to, and you decide to talk to a leaf instead, you're either losing your marbles, or you are just plain shy.
