Floods

By: Isabela C. and Catarina Hurtado

  • an overflow of an expanse of water that submerges land

caused by

  • heavy rains that pour too much water into rivers or waterways
  • dams breaking

drainage systems destroyed in cities, resulting in raw sewage spilling into bodies of water. (Ew)

  • Have some greenspace in your city
  • have ditches and runways for the water to flow away
  • Have levees (dikes/gate)
  • have a floodplain
  • have rocks on shore to keep water from eroding your streets.
  • Winding streams

some reports say that the predicability of a flood is hinged to that of a drought and how bad previous monsoons were.

the Central Water Commision (CWC) has its headquarters in New Delhi. They regulate the flooding of rivers.

100 people die per year of floods, more than most single natural disasters.
