Throughout this course we purposely reflected on our practice and adjusted our teaching practices based on our strengths and weaknesses. In order to to think systemically about our practice we learned how to differentiate between descriptive, analytic, and reflective writing. We then analyzed a video of teaching practice with descriptive, analytic, and reflective writing.
Effective teachers mange classroom behavior,norms, and student learning. It is also important for teachers to assess their students and provide feedback. To demonstrate our ability to monitor our students we returned to the student from the case study to design an activity with adaptations. Lastly, we examined this student's work to assess if the differentiation was successful.
Within many assignments in this course we have been developing our PLN and explored effective teaching. As teachers we need to be lifelong learners. We have created a personal education philosophy to guide us through our professional careers. Over time this philosophy will change and adapt to evolving our beliefs.
Creating a positive teacher-student relationship is important in establishing a safe environment. Teachers need to look at the needs of their students, and place high standards for all of their students. To demonstrate our ability to meet this core proposition we conducted a student case study. By working with a particular student we were able to examine teacher/student relationships, cultural influence, and student voice.
In order to be an effective teacher, one needs to have content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge. Individually we created a chart of the connections between NBPTs Core Propositions, NBPTs standards, and CSTPs. We then worked as a team to develop a concept map of the connections in the chart to the thematic connections. Lastly, we reflected on our personal practice in relation to the themes we observed.
