Because Mussolini wanted to relieve the glory of the Roman Empire, he had a bad army so he had to alliance with Hitler ( Germany ).Also, Italy felt that it didn't get credit for its involvement in World War I.

Economically the First World War was disastrous for Italy, causing a bankrupt. Italy lacked raw materials, a large domestic market and an established trading system. Middle classes feared this crisis.

ECONOMIC SITUATION (1919-1939)

Italy had emerged from World War I in a poor and weakened condition. Post-war there was inflation, massive debts and an extended depression. By 1920 the economy was in a massive convulsion (mass unemployment, food shortages, strikes, etc.)
