Treatment options are unfortunately limited. Surgery is not an option, surgery causes more inflammation to the bones and causes even more bone growth. Scientist are trying to come up with a medication to limit the extra bone growth. There are also medications to help with symptoms such as swelling.
FOP is diagnosed by the deformation of the big toes. If doctors suspect a child has Fop they will run scans to check for softness and/or inflammation of bones.

Fibrodysplasia oddificans progessiva (also know as FOP), is a muscular disorder that turns ligaments and tendons into bones. This means that bones are formed outside of the skeletal system. Children generally come out of the womb with symptoms, such as abnormally large toes. Other children are not affected til early childhood.

Rickets is treated by giving the child diagnosed more vitamin D. This may mean the child go outside more and take special Vitamin D supplements. If the bones are deformed, then the child will need to wear corrective braces to push the bones back where the belong. In severe cases the child may need surgery.

Rickets disease is diagnosed by doctors checking for tenderness in the bones, certain test may aslo be performed such as blood test to measure calcium levels and X-Rays to check for signs of the bone curving.
Rickets is a disease caused from a lack of Vitamin D. It causes bones to soften and eventually the bones curve inward/outward. Children develop the disease in the first 6-36 months of living.
