What is Contrived Experiences?

  • Overcome limitations of space and time
  • Overcome difficulties of size
  • Understand the inaccessible
  • Help the learners understand abstractions

It is the second band of Dale's Cone. These are "edited" copies of reality and are used as substitutes for real things when it is not practical or not possible to bring or do the real thing in the classroom.

GENERAL PURPOSES OF SIMULATIONS AND GAMES IN EDUCATION

Models

is a reproduction of a real thing in a small scale or exact size but made of synthetic material

  • To develop analytical processes
  • To sensitive individuals to another person’s life role
  • To prepare participants for assuming new roles in the future

Mock-up

A special model where the parts of a model are singled out , heightened and magnified in order to focus on that part of process under study.

Object

may also include artifacts displayed in museum or object displayed in exhibits or preserved insect specimens in Science

Specimen

Any individual or item consider typical of a group, class or whole

Simulation

representation of a manageable real event in which the learner is an active participant engaged in learning behavior or applying previously acquired skills or knowledge.

Games

Designed to create a compelling complex problem space or world, which players come to understand through self- directed exploration
