Diction- the author's choice of words

Theme

Theme-a one sentence statement that identfies the central idea in a piece of literature

The theme in the poem is that even though they're being enslaved African Americans still had hope that they would escape tyranny

1. She is writing about how its a happy day because William is in control now.

2."No more","No longer","Mournful strain", those words show that with this person having control now he's promising no more of these things that America is suffering from

3. Wheatley is hoping that God grace William so he can be okay and be able to help the slaves. So blessing him benefits the slaves.

4.Wheatley is creating an image of horses coming and taking them to find her God like in the Prophet. Then slaves being rescued.

6. The poem is about Wheatley being happy that William is in control and her hoping that God graces William so that he can help the slavesand they are able to be free.

Figurative Language

Consonance- In line 1 it says, "Hail happy day," this is consonance because it is repeating the same A sound

Rhythm- At the end of each line, the last word whymes with the following last word, " Smiling like the mourns," and, " New-England to adorn,"

Rhyme Scheme

The rhyme pattern is AA,BB,CC,DD,FF,GG etc.The author rhymes every last word in the line with the following last word in the next line.
