The ska is a type of music that originated in 1950s and was popularized in the 1960s

A late Kingston musicians began experimenting with the fusion of jazz and "rhythm & blues" native Americans with Caribbean rhythms, adapting to the taste of the island according to the trends that were imposed in the Sound Systems.

The ska was born in Kingston in the early 50s. In the cities the people gather in places where picked the latest news form America, the jazz, soul and rhythm & blues. The two main ones were Trojan of Duke Reid and Sir Coxsone Downbeat, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, who would later join them Cecil Bustamante, known as Prince Buster. Until 1954 it did not appear the first record label, Federal, which also faces the American music.

Rocksteady

The Rocksteady is a music genre that originated in Jamaica to 1966. Successor of ska and direct precurssor of reggae

Rocksteady arose during a time which Jamaican youth began to overstocking called ghettos of Kingston.

Despite the optimism that permeates the atmosphere wing back independence for the island, youth could not share this sentiment. Many offenders showing some identity and style it became. These young people were called Rude Boys.

Reggae

Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the mid-1960s. It is a specific musical genre that originated as a development of previous such as ska and rocksteady.
