Cheek Cell Lab

The tissue that lines the inside of the mouth is known as the basal mucosa and is composed of squamous epithelial cells

These structures, commonly thought of as cheek cells, divide approximately every 24 hours and are constantly shed from the body

Instructions

1. Prepare slide (Procedure part 1)

2. Students not using microscopes answer questions 1,5,7,8

3. Students using microscopes follow "focusing cells" (procedure part 2)

4. After observing cheek cells find object not living to compare with cheek cells. Object must be penetrable by microscope light.

5. After using microscopes complete remaining questions on worksheet.
