-believe in an ancient communal lifestyle (eat, pray, live)

-Patriarchal Society

-rejects common technology, personal salvation, focus on nation building

Deviance

Howard Becker's Labeling Theory

-behavior, trait, or belief that departs from a norm and generates negative reaction in a particular group.

-social judgement not a moral judgement

-deviance is not inherent in acts, beliefs, or conditions

-determined by social context

The Twelve Tribes acknowledge they're deviance and denounce accusations of homophobia,racism, child labor, etc.

-Deviance is learned from others who break social norms

-In the Twelve Tribes, children are taught the practices and beliefs from the elders
