What is Down Syndrome?

  • It is a Genetic Disoder.
  • When the cell does not divide correctly it is called nondisjunction.

  • Amniocentesis is genetic testing that can be donw between 16 to 18 weeks during pregnancy.

  • There is a low risk of having a miscarage when having genetic testing during pregnancy.

  • A woman can recieve genetic testing after the birth of her child if doctors detect any signs of Down syndrome.

  • May have or develop other health problems
  • Studies have shown that people with Down syndrome are living longer.

Adolescents

  • Females & Males still go through normal purberty.
  • Females are less fertile, but can still get pregnant.
  • Males have a low sperm count, but can still father children.
  • Both have a high chance of conceiving a child with Down syndrome.
