Cultural Lag
Introduction:Now in days new technology is being produced everyday, but not every one chooses to use the new resources that are now givin to us.Which is called Cultural Lag, meaning a gap between the technical development of a society (material culture) and its moral and legal institutions (nonmaterial culture). For example Jehova's Witnesses are on the moral side of cultural lag.
Case Study: Jehovah's Witnesses religious morals has kept them behind multi important medical recoveries. Such as blood transfusion, and according to Jehovah's blood tranfusion is considerd as a sin. Causing many many Jehovah's Witnesses to die from this including children.
Theoretical Theory: Through Jehovah’s Witnesses interpretation of the bible, they believe that blood transfusions are restricted by God as stated in Leviticus 17:12: “Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood,’” (NASB).
Theoretical Theory contiu: Also Jehova's Witnesses believed that blood is a sacred gift life-giving from God to them. They think that blood is life itself and once removed from the body it no longer contains life.
Possible Soulutions Contiud: One last possible solution to this problem is using components of whole blood instead of the whole blood itself. It is possible to separate the blood into its different components, which are plasma, platelets, and red and white blood cells. While it is still unacceptable to witnesses to accept even the components of blood, there are no specific regulations against the components of plasma, which include albumin and immune globulins. (Blood, Plasma)
Conclusion: Jehova's Wtnesses will continue not to accept blood transfusion and any alternetive treat will not be as compatable as the actual procdure. So until medical technologists find a full proof alternative to blood transfusion, Jehova's Witnesses will never accept the treatment.
Possible Solutions: Although there is no replacement for blood itself, there are alternatives to blood transfusion that are acceptable and compliant to Jehovah’s Witnesses beliefs. One of these solutions is bloodless surgery. There are various forms of bloodless surgery that are used including minimally invasive procedures, drugs that simulate blood production, and special surgical tools that help decrease the loss of blood during surgery (Bloodless Surgery). Blood volume maximizers are also used in some situations.
