In the past people who may have felt
racism or prejudice against them at WCU
have been afraid to speak. SHARC will offer
a place for Anti-Racism to start.
To bring widespread intolerance of racial prejudice to the Western Community.
Civil action, emphasis on attention to what we overlook rather than listening
to people spout off about the "way things are", speaking softly and carrying a big stick , presence and action over ambition and true justice.
Location: behind the BB&T on campus on the open plot of land.
Our main interest is to one day have a place
at the core of the WCU experience, bringing
equal equality everywhere.

"Feedback - The Throwdown"
Two-day eventfeaturing scholars and speakers
Day One- We hear from the forefront of social activism like Saul Williams, Henry Rollins, Bell Hooks and Nas in both individual and panel form.
Day Two- The mic is handed off to you. We give the mic away for hate, love, activism, and transgression, but whatever you say is up for you to back up when the mic goes to the crowd. A counselor mediates the discussion between the crowd, the panel and the speaker while trained volunteers mediate individuals who need to vent if things get heated.
Monthly Event
"Feedback"
Speaker series not about individual heritage, but about each heritage's relationship to contemporary ( or historical, in the case of ancient) racism. From the Celts to the Black Panthers, we invite educators and experts to look at racism at it's roots.
Inter-Organization Boundaries
Allied with Unity- seperate organizations with seperate equalities.
Sociology and Anthropology faculty who speak would be encouraged
to help as well.
Communications department might encouraged to assist with broadcasting
and advertising the event throughout campus.
We hope for SHARC to become an intrical part of the WCU community.
Biggest Strength- Community reliance, interactivity, openness, avalibility of counseling, direction, values, expert knowledge, and our close association with mulitple departments putting SHARC at the core of the WCU experience, bringing equal equality everywhere.
Biggist obstacle to success:
Community rejection of realities,
would be detrimental, but it's to be
expected. No resistance ever started
without a little resistance.
Day to Day Resistance
Giving a safe place and an aggressive center for intolerance
of unacceptance, especially foreign exchange students and minorites.
Can we maintain an anti-racism in a racist instituition ?
As long as we have the community, we have our foot in the door
to change the institution. Whether we should try and the opportunity to pursue alternatives isn't something worth looking at.
Cost and community rejection of the problem
