Fall 2018 Leadership Retreat

Our Joint Mission

Hogwarts Will be Friere Style

Paulo Friere is a famous equitable educational leader. His philosophy said that we are all learners together.

Our mission at The Center for Student Life and Leadership Development is to create a learning environment outside of the classroom.

We aim to do this by providing services, programs, and information that promote leadership development. We encourage students to participate in campus life through our clubs, student government, and volunteer opportunities. We also support student success in leadership roles and processes.

To practice this engaged education, we will check in with each other so that we can use our voices and checking in instead of raising hands.

Remember we are all teachers and learners.

Event Planning

When you are at an event:

• have your event shirt on
• change or wear a jacket if you are "just enjoying"
• have your ASCC name badge/landyard on
• make sure you are clean
• make sure you are wearing gloves serving food
• make sure you are waiting to eat or eating away from the event
• have phone put away
• (Unless you are Commissioner of Publicity)

For every one credit hour in which you enroll, you will spend approximately two to three hours outside of class studying.

Example: 6 units = 18 hours outside of class working

Hypogrfths, like birds teach us:

• Together Matters
• Birds flying in flocks can fly about 70% farther
• Everyone is a Leader
• Birds in flocks lead and follow
• They switch which bird leads the V to stay strongest
• Looking Out for Eachother
• Geese help each other. Scientists discovered when one goose becomes ill, and drops out of the formation, two other geese will fall out of formation and remain with the weakened goose.
