Timeline (2010-2016)

January

2013

  • 4th: Mount sinabung had erupted countless times through the morning of the 4th-5th. The volcano spewed out a 4,000 metre high colum of ash, damaging proportey, crops, and posining animals.

September

2010

February

  • On the 15th of September, Mt. Sinabung erupted at 3a.m.
  • More than 3,700 villagers evacutated from a 2 mile radius of the volcano.

August

  • 1st: a further eruption occured killing 16 people, who were among those who were aloud to return home after a lack of recent volcanic activity.
  • 29th: The volcano became active after 4 centuries ( the most recent eruption being in 1600.)
  • Around 300,000 people were evacutated from, their villages.

September

  • 3rd: Two eruptions more occured in one day. The first at 4:45 a.m. the explosion was twice the size of the one that occured in August.
  • The second occured at around 6 p.m that day.

2016

May

  • In May of 2016 Mount Sinabung had once again erupted.
  • People described the eruption being so violent that townships as far away as 12 km had been covered in thick layers of ash.
  • Sinabung still remains on a high alrert level, and may or may not erupt again in the future.

Where and what is Mt. Sinabung?

Mount Sinabung is a volcano located in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Mt. Sinabung is a strato volcano also known as a composite volcano which is a concinal volcano built up by many layers of hardened lava tephra, pumrice, and volcano ash.
