Although I've have been updating my blog on what I doing for my masterpiece, it's placed in between other things I have posted for Dr. Preston's class. That being said, I have decided to create a Prezi to put everything together in a much clearer and concise fashion. This makes it easier for all of you to access my progress and give me advice.
Clear Assessment of myself, so now you can assess me
By: Bailey Wineman
One of my many passions that actually relates to English is the fact that I love to read. I've read books ever since I could remember, and when it was a really good book, I'd finish it in a day or two. But not the AP books we've read constantly throughout our high school years. We picked them apart so much that its hard to just simply read the book on a basic level, without figuring out why the author made one character's shirt blew. Honeslty, who cares. And these AP books are old and hard to relate too. When I read a book, I want to relate with the character, and I love to put myself in their shoes and just get lost in their world for awhile. But because I have a negative "stigma" with these AP level books because of school, I can't do that with characters in those books.
After saying all that, and because this is class where we are given freedom to do a lot of what we want, Annette and I are on a mission to prove English teachers wrong. You don't have to only use AP books to teach a class about things needed to pass an AP test. There are plently of literary elements and techniques in the books we both enjoy reading to be beneficial for the class. And that is what our masterpiece is. We are going to take a variety of books and teach them to the class, like an English teacher would with an AP book.
I want to major in liberal studies to become an elementary school teacher. I always had a passion for little kids. I love playing and talking to them because the are so optimistic and really enjoy themselves and life in general. And you don't see that with high school students or in an office very often. And i want to do something that I enjoy and makes me happy. And now you ask how does my masterpiece relate to my future? Well I'll tell you. The masterpiece is going to require much collaboration with Annette. We need to come to an agreement on what we will present to the class and how we will present to the class, and this is EXACTLY what you have to do as an elementary teacher with your coworkers. You can't have one person teaching one thing and another teaching something completely different. You have to work together and agree on what will best benefit the children for their own futures. And secondly, standing up in front of the class and teaching them about these books, is what I plan on doing for the rest of my life. I have to determine if I'm going to enjoy it or not.
The books we have chose to read for this masterpiece we are creating are "Looking For Alaska" by John Green, "The Faults In Our Stars" by John Green, "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer, and "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. With the first two books our plan is to compare the author's similarities and differences between the two books he wrote and see what techniques he tends to gravitate towards. With the last two books, since they are both utopia/distopia type novels, we plan on comparing them to each other but also possibly with "Brave New World." So far, our progress has just been to read these novels and refresh our memory of them. But honestly, we don't plan on tackling and tearing them apart until closer to the due date.
