With this power, I planned on holding my head up high each day because I set my mentality to thinking that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Just like the black leaders, they had to put in work to get the rights they were fighting for and without their dedication and determination they would not have got it done.
I have felt empowered by my race when I learned about black history because I learned how we helped get rights for all and we helped racism not be as strong as before. We have achieved many accomplishments over the years including with our black leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. , Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, etc.
I am half Puerto Rican and half African-American, so my race is most salient to me because I am apart of the minority group, which means that my race is constantly underestimated of their abilities in education and having a successful life.
With my race in mind, I am considered an outsider because I am not white. With this label as an outsider I am not looked highly of in a society of whites because they will be the insiders. However, I can also be an outsider and an insider amongst other minorities because of the fact that I am biracial. I can be an outsider because amongst minorities, they might not consider me as apart of their group. I can also be an insider if we just talked about race and they knew that I was a minority just like them and they did not look at my appearance first. (Identity Development in Multiracial families)
