Albert Sidney Johnston
Johnston was first educated at Transylvania University in Lexington. He was later appointed to the U.S. Military Academy with friend, Jefferson Davis. Graduated in 1826 and was eigth overall out of 41 cadets in his class. He earned a commission as a brevet second lieutenant in the second U.S. Infantry.

He served as a Confederate general during the CIvil War. Also a commander of all Confederate troops between Texas and the Appalachian Mountains, Colnel of the Texas Army during the Texas Revolution, and was appointed to full general that served in the War's western theater as a commander.

Albert's battles consisted of: The Texas Revolution, The Civil War, and at the Battle of Shiloh where he was shot in the leg without his knowledge. It later got infected and he died.
Johnston was a Southern military leader. He was enlisted as a private in the Texas Army shortly after the Battle of San Jacinto. On August 5, 1836 he was promoted to colnel. One year later on January 31 he was named the commander of the army. Albert was also the CSA commander that withdrew to Cornith, Mississippi.
He was born on April 6, 1803 in Washington, Kentucky. He was the youngest son of Dr. John & Abigail Harris Johnston. He lived most of his life in Texas. In 1829 he married Hennrietta Preston.Johnston was considered one of the best Confederate commanders until he was killed at the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee, the first major engagement in the West.
