Pheoby Watson

By Diana Martinez & Raquel Osorio

Who is Pheoby herself?

Pheoby was emotionally connected to Janie. She saw her self as Janie's best friend. The story is told to Pheoby by Janie through out the book. In other words, Phoeby is the narrate-to tell the story of something, usually in detail.

Pheoby as herself...

Pheoby as others saw her:

As i see Pheoby:

Summary: Pheoby Watson

Pheoby, Janie's best friend, listens while Janie tells her about what had happen through out her life without no judgement. Pheoby herself i think is surprise at somethings Janie ends up telling her. She is surprised because she does what society is expected to be done so listening to Janie talk about things that wouldn't be okay with society makes her frighten on what society might say about her best friend,Janie. However at the end of the story Pheoby realizes how much fun Janie had and wants to the have fun and enjoy life rather than worrying on what society might think.

  • Representive of society
  • Looks out for Janie & Her husband
  • Worries what what others might say
  • Respectul

"Sh-sh-sh! Dont let nobody hear you say dat, Janie. Folks will say you ain't sorry he's gone." Pheoby said.

This is an example of Pheoby caring about what society might say and also caring about Janie getting veiwed poorly by society.

  • Caring
  • Good listener
  • Non judgemental

"Ah takes dat flattery offa you, Pheoby, 'cause Ah know its from the de heart." Janie said.

"Pheoby, we been kissin'-friends for twenty years, so Ah depend on you for a good thought. And Ah'm talking to from dat standpoint." Janie said.

  • Caring
  • Disant
  • Respectfull
  • Emotionally connects
  • Great friend

This is an example of how Janie saw her. She saw Pheoby as a shoulder to lean on. She can tell Pheoby anything wihtout judgement in return. The quote in the bottom is an example of Janie appreciating Pheobe for caring and listening to you.

"Y'all make me tired. De way you talkin' you'd think the folks in dis town didn't do nothin'in de bed 'cept praise de Lawd. You have to 'scuse me, 'cause Ah'm bound to take her some supper". Pheoby stood up sharply.

This is an exapmle on how Pheoby didnt join the rest of the girls jugmental gossip towards Janie. She respectfully told them she didnt appreciate them talking bad about otheres when them thereselves are not perfect. Also this is an example on how she cared to take Janie some supper and to see how she was
