This modern day all black, spandex leggings and cotton jacket are perfect for Matilde. The bandana in her hair will give off the persona that she is here to clean!

Romance, drama and finding the comedy through it all is the theme packed into Sarah Ruhl's The Clean House. All seems well for the Connecticut doctors, until the comedian maid and Virginia find sexy underwear in the laundry; which do not belong to the woman of the house! This devastating find for Lane gives disclosure to the somber beauty of two soul mates.

Charles is dressed in Dolce and Gabbana business attire with a Bugs Bunny tie under his long white coat. The tie draws attention to his childish side.

Patrick Dempsey is cast as Charles because of his genuine, charming personality and good looks. His personality will allow you to sympathize and understand his love for Ana.

Kate Hudson is cast as Lane because of her dedicated career focused roles and for her remarkable freak-out moments in movies such as Bride Wars and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

This role will require a more serious side of Kate Hudson, but as she overcomes her personal emotions to help the ill Ana, we will see the poise caring woman who overcomes a very unique situation.

His performance in Grey’s Anatomy perfectly suits the surgeon role of Charles. He also is versed in the “head over heels love” that he examples in Sweet Home Alabama.

This all Vera Wang white cotton dress with a suite jacket is a comfortable classy combination that Lane would signify Lane's professional life, but yet simple style for her busy life.

He has several key props on him to include his stethoscope, trauma shears and lots of pens. Each prop denotes his profession as a surgeon.

My production of The Clean House will appeal to a more broad audience through new young energy and a clean modern design. We will cast younger characters and emphasize high fashion. Lane, Virginia, Charles and Ana will all be spaced in age as explained in the playbook, but they will be in their thirties. Matilde will remain in her late twenties. High fashion costumes will also give a new flashy appeal to the 2004 play. Costumes will be selected from clothing lines such as Vera Wang and Lululemon.

We will focus on Sarah Ruhl’s key magical scenes which are Act II, Scene 6 and Scene 13. Scene 6 is the scene where Ana and Matilde throw apples off of the balcony into the sea, which is Lane’s living room. We will use small, real shiny green and yellow apples. The set will have a high rise balcony overlooking Lane’s modern white living room. In Scene 13, when Charles brings the tree from Alaska, we will use a real twelve foot tall tree with roots and all! Using an actual tree and apples will give realism to these magical scenes.

Virgina- Costume Design

Ana- Costume Design

Casting: Matilde- Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara is selected due to her South American background. Though she is Colombian, she will easily adapt to the dialect and language because Portuguese and Spanish are closely related languages.

This stylish hospital gown which can double as a nightgown will add comfort to Ana as she goes through remission and relapse of cancer.

Virgina is a very put together woman who is very orderly and loves cleaning. Her very stylish but casual J. Crew outfit is perfect for a housewife who views dust as a sign of progress.

We will provide the audience with any Portuguese lines translated to English, but yet still emphasize the Matilde’s last line with only one spotlight on her to end the play. The use of different languages is a key point in this play, as Matilde’s last line reads: “I think maybe heaven is a sea of untranslatable jokes. Only everyone is laughing.”

She is the perfect fit for our more-of-a-comedian maid! Her role on Modern Family shows her attempts to integrate into a new culture, but strongly loving her own; similar to Matilde when she speaks of her family and jokes.
