The whole of the New Testament, and in a special way the Acts of the Apostles, bears witness to a privileged and in a sense exemplary moment of [the church’s] missionary effort which will… leave its mark on the whole history of the Church.

He charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father… “for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 1:4-5
“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.” 1:8
