The good and the bad about the 17th amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Was it worth it?

No. This amendment took away too much representation from the states. The states being represented properly is almost as important as the people because they each represent the people they rule in a different way, sometimes a wiser way then the people would rule themselves. It made our nation a Democracy, and Democracies always fail when led by an immoral people, (Modern America to a tee.) This amendment must be repealed.

The bad in this Amendment:

The good in this amendment:

  • It made it so that the rich would have a harder time "buying senators."
  • The people would have more say in what goes on in the government.
  • It made our country more of a Democracy, (Which is a bad thing) and less of a republic.
  • It took away the representation away from the states.
  • It made the battle over representation fought out in the constitutional convention in 1787 pointless, because it made it null and void.

The 17th Amendment

The 17 Amendment gave the power, and responsibility to the people to elect the senators instead of the states.
