God is rich in mercy, but He does not force himself upon us. Pope Benedict XVI teaches that "Christ, in His invitations to Judas to follow Him along the way of the beatitudes does not force Judas's will or protect him from the temptations of Satan, respecting human freedom
St. Faustina, the great Apostle of Divine Mercy:
Jesus revealed to her as hope how He offers the soul final grace:
he will say three times: O Soul steeped in darkness, do not despair. All is not lost. Come and confide in your God who is love and mercy.
God will not force any soul, however. The soul needs to accept.
The word Pentecost is a translation of the Greek word pentekostos, which means "fifty." It comes from the ancent Christian expression pentekoste hemera, which means "fiftieth day."
Even before the coming of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost referred to a Jewish holiday known as the Shavuot, in Hebrew. This festival had many other names, including Festival of Weeks and Festival of First fruits.
During this day, people from surrounding towns and cities would travel to Jerusalem to offer their first fruits of the wheat harvest in the Temple ad ti give thanks to God in remembrance of the first produce of the Promised Land in the Old Testament.
This day became especially significant for Christians because, 7 weeks after the resurrection of Jesus, during the Jewish celebration of Shavuot/Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured our upon his first followers, thus empowering them for their mission and gathering them together as a church.
HS as a person:
1. is a person
2. is God
As Catholics, we believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person in the trinity, with the Father and the son.
Why might is be hard for us to understand the HS as a person?
"The Catholic Church does not teach that even Judas is damned to hell. "Even though he went to hang himself (cf. Mt. 27:5), it is not up to us to judge his gesture, substituting ourselves for the infinitely merciful and just God."
With the person next to you, discuss what you understand to be the Holy Spirit.
