chief Opechancanough led the attack. they canoed across the river and went to the gates. the settlers were only halfway prepared. indians and settlers grabbed any tools, knives, guns, or swords in sight. it was a vicious attack, from 1621 to 1622. many, many people were killed, 347 people in total! it was near the end for jamestown. not only that, but the indians burnt houses, burnt crops, and attacked the smaller villages around jamestown.
