West Africa Timeline

Education was key and the city Timbukto was becoming centered for education around 1350 C.E.

Mosques in Ancient west Africa were very common and special. Al-Saheli built a mosque in Timbukto in 1325 C.E.

Mansa musa begins in Mali around 1312 C.E. He was a very good and powerful leader.

Ghana starts to get rich with gold and other worthful valuebles in 850 C.E.

The spread of Islam started to happen from traders that started to introduce it to West Africa in 700-750 C.E.

The Nok people made sculptures called terra-cottas of human figures in 200 C.E

Iron tools start to get big and bigger so the Nok villagers use them in 500 B.C.E.

The fall of Ghana opened the way for a new and more powerful empire, Mali. The kingdom made much of its wealth from from controlling trade, particularly gold trade

Muslims invaded Ghana in the seventh century seeking the control of trade through west Africa. They also intended to convert the west africans to the culture of islam. Ghana fought off the invaders and most of them became merchants in local towns.

camels were introduced to the Sahara in 300 c.e. Camels seemed like they were made for the desert, they could drink 25 gallons of water at one time. They could travel for several days without water, this increased the speed of trade.

A group of people called the Soninke founded Ghana in the year close to 300 c.e., the city of Ghana thrived until it was weakened from different attacks and cut off fro international trade, as a result, the city came to an end in 1200 c.e.
