Rebellious movement were started along the Trans-Siberian Railroad because they thought no revolution was needed. Finally, Nicholas II released October Manifesto, which pledges a constitution and Duma.
King Ivan III brought many good deeds to Russia. He had took over Ukraine and some of the Oko district. In 1478, King Ivan III, by force, conquered Novogorod. By the end of his kingship, the land had nearly tripled to what he first ruled. Because of the success Ivan III achieved, he earned the title "Great" and was the first to use the title "Ruler of all Russia".
The Russian War was driven when both the Bolsheviks and the Kerensky always tried to overpower the other. Eventually they fought for a couple of years before the Bolsheviks had won. The war broke out diseases and starvation which millions of people. Once again, the economy struggled. The citizens had complaints about the Bolsheviks legislative overall making Russia angry and sad from the civil war.
King Ivan was brutal and harsh to his people. It was said he ripped the eyes of the men who built the St. Basil Cathedral. During his reign, economy crashed when droughts, famines, and plagues occured. When his wife Anastasia died poisoned, Ivan starting killing noblemen thinking they were plotting to remove the throne from him. Next, he selected several men to spread terror throughout the country. King Ivan IV left Russia in ruin economically and politically giving him the title "the Terrible".
King Vladimir chose Eastern Orthodox to be the official religion in 988. The magnificent worship traditions attracted King Vladimir. Vladimir put his attention to protecting the poor and making peace with neighboring nations. He eliminated the death penalty. Today, Russia is celebrating its 1027 years with Eastern Orthodoxy.
The Trans-Siberian Railroad was to make one's travels across Russia easier despite its large size. After the difficulties of the taiga, the railroad was built in twelves year starting in Vladivostok and ending in Moscow. Once it was built, the Trans-Siberian Railroad brought wealth boosting the economy tremendously. It made travel much faster and easier when one goes from one side of Russia to other. Today it is the longest railroad in the world, which attracts many travelers, still giving an impact to Russia's economy.
Kievan Rus was founded in the ninth century by Oleg of Novogord, who reigned at the time . Kievan Rus, currently located in Ukraine and Russia, was the first state of East Slavs. It was a region where many trading cities were located which brought wealth. Kievan Rus took control over Constantinople by marrying the princess of Constantinople in 907. This state flourished until the Mongols attacked; December 1240 marked the fall of Kievan Rus.
The Revolution of Russia on February 1917 was to strengthen and modernize the country. They realized that Russia need this upgrade because their weapons were weak compared to the industrial weapons Germany. The economy was disrupted which had put Russia in debt. Many were mad and protested because of the dissatisfaction of the living conditions. One of the last events that happen was when Nicholas II resigned from the throne.
USSR was not planning on joining the war and they felt confident about not being attack because Germany had signed a treaty saying they will not attack each other. That promised was not kept with Germany and Germany attack. USSR, unprepared, Finland and Eastern Poland. USSR loss some territory from the Nazis but quickly got back on their feet and made the Nazis surrender and regaining land. Nearly fourteen percent of Russia were killed from the war.
The Rise of Muscovy was the expansion of the Russian state. Building trade links between the Baltic Sea, Caspian Sea, and Siberia was one factor which brought Muscovy great wealth. Because of the Grand Prince at the time (King Ivan III), power was gained throughout the years by gaining land.
Both Russia and Japan fought for the land of the Far East. Although transporting materials to the East of Russian was stressful, the Trans-Siberian Railroad made it somewhat easier. Fight after, Russia lost multiple times. At the last battle was the Battle in Mukden, leaving thousands of Russian soldiers dead, Russia final gave in to Japan. This was the first war which Asian troops defeated European soldiers.
the Varangians
After an awful start to the new century, Russia finally got time to strengthen and grow as one happy country. From this, Russia was renamed to Union of Soviet Socialists Republic (USSR). Industry developed in Russia. Stalin revised the nation policy because of the of the over-confident and prideful non-Russians. The Soviet constitution ws made in 1936.
Peter the Great was appointed as Tsar of Russia when he was about ten years old. Peter had started and won the Northern War with Sweden in 1700 to reclaim the land which accessed the Baltic Sea. During process, Peter the Great founded the city of St. Petersburg making it a major seaport giving Russia easier access to European trade. Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg and reorganized goverment, improved marketing.
World War I started in 1914 and Russia was soon into the bloody field. Russia had been defeated numerous times throughout the the four years of violence. Since they are constantly calling more men in, the market, industries, and agriculture dropped. This made the economy dropped as well, having a food shortage and making anger rise within the citizens. By the end of WWI, Russia was practically a grave after the brave soldiers fought for their country.
The purpose of the Russification was to bring Russia too unity. To achieve this goal,they annhilated all other enthic groups and cultures which do not follow Russian tradition. Alexander III, the ruler at the time, persecuted any non-Russian. He gave Jews a hard time because they were constantly being attacked and killed. This was all done to acknowledge Russia.
Vladimir Lenin was a figure of the international revolutionary because he was unsatisfied with the outcome of the Revolution in 1917. While the war was goin on, he was working and being against the provisional government. Many distaste his opinion and he was often exiled going from country to country. His efforts of opposing the current Russian government stalled.
During this time, it was said that the Mongols were an undefeated army. They had destroyed Europe before destroying Kievan Rus. The Mongols attacked piece by piece before giving their final blow. They first attacked across the Volga River in 1236. By 1238, Moscow was in ashes and most of the royal family had died. After fighting from one city to another, Kievan Rus gave in making the Mongols rule in 1240. The Mongols thrived in Russia for centuries.
The Varangians, also known as the vikings, had settled in Kievan Rus. The Varangians were the elite soldiers whom formed in 850. They were a combination of the armies from Kievan Rus cities (Novgorod and Kiev) and Slavic noblemen. They were the soldiers who attempted to attack Constantiople in 860. They were the reason why the Rurik Dynasty lasted many years.
The Cold War was mainly between USA and USSR. USSR want to gain more territory while USA wanted to restrict the amount of land they own. Both country developed nuclear weapons so they would be prepared if one country attack. At the end USSR fell apart due to the economic weakness. The Cold War define in detail the foreign policies.
The Rurik Dynasty
Prince Rurik found the Rurik Dynasty. His descendants ruled the Rurik Dynasty until King Floydor died without a child. While his family reigned, they brought Christianity and confederation by distributing the king's sons to major cities. In 1097, the princes decided to divide the kingdom, but was brought back to unity shortly after.
