John Mayer

Genre: R&B/Soul

Listed below I have my personal favorites:

Sam Smith-

I'm not the only one:

  • harmonies and melodies
  • Instrumentals: drum, piano, and even a little violin
  • Smooth transitions from low to high notes and his chest to his head voice.

Alicia Keys- :) :) :) :)

Superwoman- because it reminds me I can do anything

No one- because it’s beautiful and rich in sound and has sort of been a part of my childhood

Girl on fire- lyrics like “nobody knows that she’s a lonely girl and it’s a lonely world but she gon let it burn baby burn baby this girl is on fire” tell me that you can get through the lonely times and be stronger because of them

Some people want it all- This is the song I have chosen for representative of this genre, notice how she shows of her vocal range and transitions

I like nearly all of his songs but I chose this one because it shows all the qualities of his voice that I really like:

Free Fallin'- John Mayer's voice is relaxing and meladious. This is one of those songs that just sounds like home to me. This perfomance is played with only a guitar his voice and a couple oher people who harmonize with him in a few parts of the song. Here is a clip:

Why do we like music?

Country!

Just one more country!

Easton Corbin

- I can't love you back: easton sings in a low and medium register in this beautiful emotional song explaining the pain of a passed lover.

Vintage T-swift:

-cold as you: using beautiful metaphors Taylor explains how mean someone is to her "You put up walls and paint them all a shade of grey and I stood there loving you and washed them all away" "So I start a figh cause I need to feel something and you do what you want cause I'm no what you wanted"

-Tied together with a smile: Taylor uses poetic devices to describe a friends struggle with Bulimia " and no one knows that you cry but you don't tell anyone that you might not be the golden one"

-The outside: Taylor describes the feeling of loneliness in an interview about the song she said: ''I wrote that about the scariest feeling I've ever felt: going to school, walking down the hall, looking at all those faces, and not knowing who you're gonna talk to that day. People always ask, How did you have the courage to walk up to record labels when you were 12 or 13? It's because I could never feel the kind of rejection in the music industry that I felt in middle school."

We love music because we here it and it instantly makes us feel something. Don't you ever just here someone hit an amazing note and it makes you smile? Doesn't some music make you feel at home? I started with 39 songs and have narrowed it down to my very very favorite songs! :)

Singer-Songwriter (aren't you guys proud it isn't country!)

Ed Sheeran

Give me love- This song talks about loneliness and wanting to be loved, I love ed sheeran's voice. In this song he displays a vocal range set to beautiful lyrics.

More Country

Yeah that's right more country...

Kacey Musgraves

has a pretty voice and sings in a relaxed middle register

Dandelion- The song compares blowing dandelions to a relationship a simple but genius metaphor "it's a waste of breath and it's a waste of tie I know because just like him you always leave me crying dandelion"

Silver lining- Once again a simple song, with the message of take chances and to get to the good you have to go through the bad "and if you wanna fill your bottle up with lighting your gonna have stand in the rain"

Eric Church

Eric sings in a low-middle register. His tone color is on the darker side with a low rough voice. He sings nostalgically. I love his songs give me back my hometown and Springsteen. :)

Carrie Underwood:

Carrie Underwood is an amazing artist who has unbeliavable range and transitions effortlessly:

-Blown away: "there's not enough rain in oklahoma to wash the sins out of this house" "shatter every window until it's all blown away, every tea-soaked whisky memory blown away"

Temporary home- Tells the story of different people going through changes and struggles in their life it has the messge "things will get better"

-Jesus take the wheel: Carrie has many songs like this that inspire people to be better people. Her voice and this song and it's message are so beautiful it's worth crying over.
