George 'Bugs' Moran lived in Northern Chicago and was committed several robberies and was arrested several times before the age of 21. He was apart of the North Siders beneath Dion O'Banion, Hymie West and Schemer Drucci. After Both O'Banionand West were killed by Capone hit men and drucci kllled by the police Moran took over. Moran was a violent Gangster and was responsible for much of the the violent crimes in the 1920's, he would even set up truces with gangs then a few hours later break the truce in a hail of bullets. Even with his violent nature moran was able to obtain a lot of money through Bootlegging and is one of the most successful gangsters of the 1920's.
Though his wealthy and prosperous career as a gangster was great in the 1920's after the 20's and Capone's arrest he was on a downhill spiral he went from making loads of money on alcohol to petty bank robberies. he Moved to Ohio towards the end of his career and was later arrested in July of 1946. He served ten years and then after he got out was arrested again for several bank robberies. Though Moran was a violent gangster, and he had the scares to prove it. He was not killed in any violent way but in fact died of cancer from smoking while serving a ten year sentence in Leavenworth.
Moran was nearly killed in a Gang attack at one of his warehouses. Capone's men dressed as police officers and staged a raid on the warehouse, the gang members in the warehouse were lined up against the wall and then shoot and killed by two Thomson Sub Machine Guns, but Bugs Moran was not on the premises at the time and though he was the main target of the shooting he was to live another day.
Moran's importance in the 1920's was staged around the ban of alcohol and the corruption of the government and police force. The public could see the problems not only with gang violence but also with alcohol and the government. People were seeing that with the ban of alcohol all that was being accomplished was people selling it illegally and gangsters like Moran and Capone became vastly wealthy and with these gangs violence was rising in the streets. also the gangs got off so easily because they could pay everybody and people wouldn't care. So Gangster like Moran, thier importance is more of a symbol that the government needed to reform how it was paying and treating it's employees. If the police and judges would except bribes so easily than things needed to change.
