Parts of Decision Tree

Decision Tree

-Calculations can get very

complex particularly if many

values are uncertain.

-Easy to understand and

interpret

-Allows the addition of new

possible scenarios

-Helps determine worst, best

and expected values for

different scenarios

A) Root node - the starting point of the tree, contains questions or criteria to be answered

B) Branches - arrows connecting nodes, showing the flow from question to answer

-Each branch represents a possible decision or occurrence. The use of branches means that each option is mutually exclusive.

C) Leaf node - the other nodes that contain questions or criteria to be answered.

-each node typically has two or more nodes extending from it.

  • a schematic tree-shaped diagram used to determine a course of action or show a statistical probability.
  • are commonly used in operations research, specifically in decision analysis, to help identify a strategy most likely to reach a goal.
