Story:

A lawyer came to Jesus and asks " Teacher, what shall I do to inherit internal life?

Jesus asked him what is written in the law.

He answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself."

Jesus told the lawyer he was right, but the lawyer wanted to know "who is your neighbor"

Jesus answers with the parable of the "Good Samaritan"

"The Good Samaritan"

Samaritans were people who lived in the northern part of Israel.

The Jews and the Samaritans did not get along due to different views on religious beliefs.

A group of thieves robbed, beaten, and left him bleeding on the side of the road.

A Jewish man was walking from Jerusalem to Jericho. (Usually took 2 days)

The road was called the "Way of Blood" because of its danger and difficulty.

Minutes later a priest came by and walked on the other side of the road and acted like he didn't see him.

What is the moral of the story?

Discuss with your group members.

An hour later, a Levite (people that assist priests) looked at the injured man passed by on the other side too.

Who is your neighbor?

Minutes later, a Samaritan man walked by and had compassion for the injured man. He treated his wounds with wine and oil to help ease the pain.

We usually think of our neighbor as someone who lives near us.

The Samaritan put the injured man on his donkey and took him to an Inn (hotel) to take care of him.
