SETTING

Mark: 17 year old boy who survived the flare and finds himself living with his life long crush Trina, and two war vets Alec and Lana.

Alec: A war vet who came to rescue mark and trina shortly after a tsunami caused by the polar ice caps hit new york.

Trina: marks neighbor and life long crush have been living together with other survivors in a small village in the mountains.

Lana: A war nurse who has a close relationship with Alec.

Teresa: a 5 year old girl who mark, Alec, Trina, and Lana find deserted in a village.

James was raised in Georgia but now lives in the Rocky Mountains with his family. He is married and has four kids. James has been writing full time for several years now. A lot of the books he has written were inspired by his favorite movies. His popular book The Maze Runner was influenced by Ender's Game and Lord of the Flies.

This is a prequel to the Maze Runner series. This sets up the story line for the Maze Runner. The characters in the book are in a disease stricken city somewhere in the eastern United States. No one is ever sure where they are. The city has been hit by sun flares and there isn't a way to find out the location. The only standing building left is the government.

Mark and Trina are convinced they can save those left living from this disease that drives everyone into madness called the flare. If they can stay alive, they will find the cure.

Why the government released a deadly disease

The government released a virus, "The Flare" because the world was becoming overpopulated. They attacked the biggest cities in the country to spread it as quickly as possible.

The Ending

Mark and Alec find Trina, DeeDee and Lana. They are then forced to fight dozens of people who have received the virus and gone past madness because they are taking over the world. these people who are gone mad have no limits and will do anything to get people out of their way. Mark's friends are hidden safely in a abandoned basement and DeeDee still doesn't have the virus. However Trina caught the virus and she doesn't know who mark is anymore.

I would of have put some of the big events towards the end so that many readers who haven't read The Mazer runner series yet would want to read it immediately

I would recommend this book to teens who like violence and book that takes you on a journey.

As far as Mark knows, there are only two people left in the group. Alec, an old veteran, and himself. they lost Trina, DeeDee and Lana in a forest fire. they may still be dead or still trying to figure out how to survive on their own. Alec manged to get them in and out of the WICKED HQ safely. Alec also stole the most powerful weapon ever made. he will use it to kill people who have gone mad and who ever gets in his way. the only mission now is to find their friends and stay alive.

Before WICKED (the government) was formed, before The glade was built, Before Thomas from the maze runner entered the Maze, the sun flares hit the earth. this made mankind fall to disease. The Kill order explains all of this. The story of the first city's fall was kept a secret and this was the turn of events that began the chaos.

Mark had lost Trina in all of the chaos that started when they were shot with poisonous darts. The Berg ship showed up and everyone panicked. He didn't know who had the virus and who hadn't been shot at all. The only thing he knew was that he needed to get on that ship and find out who these horrible people were.

Mark and Trina have found each other again. they have a few new friends to help them on the journey to the WICKED HQ. there was a little girl named DeeDee that was left alone in her town because she was shot with the dark and some how didn't get the disease. this made the citizens living there very scared of her so they left her there. Mark decided to take her with them.

The conflict in the book

The disease is mutating and it is becoming a lot harder to save people. The government isn't going to help because they are trying to save themselves. Mark soon realizes that he cant save everyone so he might have to leave a few people behind.
