Talking Points

My thought with creating a room to be culturally relevant, perhaps this could be a way to also stop "discrimination/racism" among students...

Incorporating culture in the classroom does NOT mean serving tacos in the cafeteria on Cinco De Mayo...

Welcome to our final class of the term!

& the livin' is {almost} easy

Outcomes

I have learned that being fair does not necessarily mean doing the same thing for everyone. I still believe that you should be willing to go to the same lengths for anyone, but sometimes going to those lengths that they need is different based on their background.

{Almost} Summertime

  • Describe characteristics of ELLs
  • Identify characteristics of different proficiency levels
  • Discuss the policies affecting ELLs in schools such as Lau vs. Nichols, home language survey, identifications assessments, annual assessments, reclassification
  • Compare instructional program models for ELLs
  • Examine language acquisition theories
  • Articulate a critical social justice framework related to the nature and role of culture in language development

Take a moment to walk around the room and write the following on posters (1) What do you know about this outcome? (2) Supporting evidence from specific pages in the text, videos we've watched, or experiences you've had this term. (3) What this means to your future as an educator

Outcome #6: Articulate a critical social justice framework related to the nature and role of culture in language development.
