One day Mary met Father Julian Tenison Woods and wanted to help him with his work. But unfortunately she was the only one earning enough money for family. Her family needed her and she just couldn't leave them. In 1866, Mary thought about what Father Woods had said and built the first school called St Joseph's School in Penola. Mary and her sisters (also known as the Sisters of St Joseph) organised this school. Many young women came to join this school. Knowing all this, Bishop Shiel invited Mary MacKillop to start a school at Adelaide.
I'm we would all agree Mother Theresa was a spirit-filled person. Well Mary Mackillop was very similar to Mother Theresa. Mary Mackillop was nowhere near selfish. She wanted to help others more than her self. Many people could see Jesus through Mary. Mary was a great role model to her siblings as well. She led them into a Christ like nature. My definition of a spirit-filled person is someone that you can see Jesus in. Someone that cares for others more than themselves.
If I saw Mary I would notice all her qualities. For
example i bet she would've greeted me
politely and showed sympathy for people around her. I think Mary MacKillop is very similar to Mother Theresa. You can even tell by her appearance that she is a very humble and loving person. She cares a lot about equality, and doesn't care who she works with.
After Mary started a school in Adelaide the Sisters spread out in groups to start more schools (in and around Australia). Some places were New Zealand, Peru, Brazil, Thailand, Uganda and more. Mary even opened orphanages, a place for the homeless and a place for ex-prisoners and ex-prostitutes, who were ready to renew their lives and let Jesus come into them. They wanted to educate the poor etc as much as they could.
Mary MacKillop was born on January 15th, 1842, Fitzroy, Victoria. Her parents are Alexander MacKillop and Flora, née McDonald. Mary was the eldest child out of eight. Her father had studied priesthood in Rome for a few years. Alexander had lacked financial awareness, so Mary didn't want to make the same mistake as her father and wanted to help her family.Mary started earning a living when she was sixteen. Mary was a governess, clerk and a teacher. Mary's siblings are Alick MacKillop, Margaret MacKillop, John MacKillop, Donald MacKillop, Annie MacKillop, Alexandrina MacKillop and Peter MacKillop.
