Being the best and biggest ship vessel, Yamato had great characteristics. Her armor was one of the best armor protection a battleship vessel could ever have. Her armor is miraculous! The waterline belt of her armor was i'll say about 410mm (16inches), the deck of the vessel was 200-226.5 (7.9-8.9 flippin' inches). Also, the gun turrets of Yamato had armor as well and they were 650mm(25.6 inches). With all of that weight she had, she weighed about roughly 72,800 tons of iron and steel at a full load of armed guns of 46cm (18.1 in.) 45 Caliber Type 94 main gun. Yamato was just short of 3 football fields long! Her length is 256 m (839 ft 11 in) (waterline)

263 m (862 ft 10 in) (overall)! Holy Crap! Freakin' Magnificent. With this huge vessel the range of the fuel would be 7,200 nmi at a speed of 16 freakin' knots.

Yamato

just a replica^^^

The Yamato and her sister (Musashi), were the largest battle vessels ever built in history. Neither of them survived the war. Yamato's plan of building were based on Japan belief that her design was to maybe the key to control the Pacific. Unlike the American battleships, the Yamato had "freedom" in which means she never had width limit. She could be as big as she wanted to be. We Americans had limites to fit in the Panama Canal. Yamato had some of the most thickest sheets of armor protection. Her bow the the vessel was a special design, allowing this huge ship to accelerate up to a little over 27 knots.

Yamato's Construction

This ship was built without the U.S knowing that it even existed with military intelligence. Yamato served a flagship and reasons kept quiet that she was unable to fire her 2,298 lbs shells at enemies vessels because for that matter she was protected; she was too valuable to engage in a battle. During a great day of patrol, she was suddenly struck by a torpedo launch by USS Skate (SS-305). Yamato finally saw action later in war battling in the Philippians Sea. But unfortunate she really didn't play a significant active role during the battle off of Samar.
