Peacocks are male peafowl.

These big birds weigh up to

13 pounds (6 kilograms).

Most peacocks have

long trains of feathers

on their backs. Eyelike spots

mark the feathers’ ends.

Peacocks spread out their

feathers to attract mates.

Females, called peahens,

lay three to eight tan eggs

in a nest on the ground.

The babies hatch

after about four weeks.
