Where are they found?

Palisade cells are found in dicotyledonous plant leaves, right under the upper epidermis, within the mesophyll layer in the leaves.

Shape, size and lifespan of a palisade cell

To end our presentation...

The typical palisade cell is 30-40 microns wide. Compared to the nerve cell, where a single cell can be a metre long,

-compared to a red blood cell, of only 7 microns, it's not too small.

-The shape of the palisade cell is rectangular, which differs from the spongy mesophyll cells

HOW DOES IT HELP IN THE LIFE OF A PLANT?

- Absorb sunlight for photosynthesis

- Photosynthesis happens in the chloroplasts of the palisade cell

6CO2+6H20+(energy from sunlight) = C6H12O6+6O2

- Glucose from Photosynthesis is similar to our food

- If plants did not have the chloroplasts in palisade cells where photosynthesis occurs, plants would have no energy

- Plants photosynthesizing are a main part of keeping our world alive by equaling the balance of carbon dioxide and oxygen so that we still have enough oxygen to breathe.

How does photosynthesis happen

How has it adapted to its function?

- Large number of chloroplasts

- Very strong cell wall

- The layer is placed on the top of the leaf to make sure that chloroplasts get maximum light absorption

- When the sunlight hits a chloroplast, it hits the thylakoid, where the light reactions occur

- Chemical reaction of the calvin cycle, which turns CO2 into glucose.

- Photosynthesis is a easily overlooked process
